Visual identity concept consisting of a logo design, responsive website, and other branded materials for a hotel spa retreat in Nara, Japan. Incorporating themes of cultural immersion and discovery, Shikayose Hotel aims to appeal to like-minded and open-minded adventurers.
The hotel’s name was inspired by shikayose [or deer calling], a seasonal event in Nara during which the area’s deer are summoned to an open field to be honored and fed. Parallels were drawn between this sacred gathering and the gathering of global adventurers seeking to immerse themselves in the wonders of Nara.
Exploration and discovery can be found throughout the brand identity, from the hotel’s tone of voice to the design of the logomark. Using the capital “S” of the Shikayose name, a curved visual was formed in the icon to resemble a pathway leading into the distance. Along this path, guests are encouraged to acquire knowledge and attain a more meaningful understanding of their world.
